#1: The Merge – $91.8 million
The Merge tops our list being one of the most expensive NFTs ever sold at $91.8 million. The Merge was created by the most well-known digital creator Pak whose works in total have grossed him a record-setting $350 million. Collectively, 28,983 people pitched in and purchased 312,000 shares (each being an NFT) of the creation itself which came in at $92 million. The Merge has easily skyrocketed Pak to fame and stardom, making him one of the richest and most valuable non-fungible token creators alive today.
#2: The First 5000 Days – $69.3 million
The next NFT on our list is titled “The First 5000 Days” which sold for over $69 million. digital artist Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann destroyed previous NFT sales records as he sold a collage of 5000 pictures which were shot once per day over, astonishingly, a thirteen year period. The digital NFT titled ‘Everydays: The First 5000 Days’ went on sale at Christies (one of the world’s most well-known art and now digital NFT auction houses) in March of 2021. The NFT was sold to crypto enthusiast and mega-investor Vignesh Sundaresan, also known as MetaKovan (who is based out of Singapore).
#3: Clock – $52.7 million
The third most expensive NFT sold on our list is titled ‘Clock’ and was sold for a whopping $52.7 million. ‘Clock’ separates itself not only due to its immense sale price but also that the NFT is dedicated to a social cause. Clock was jointly created by Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and now digital celebrity and NFT creator, Pak. ‘Clock’ depicts the days in which Julian Assange has spent behind bars in bold, striking, white font set on a striking black background. The token itself was created in an effort to support Assange’s defense selling for a sum of $52.7 million. The historic digital fundraiser/auction took place in February of 2022 to AssangeDAO, a decentralized organization (DAO) with over 10.000 Assange supporters
#4: CryptoPunk #5822 – $23.7 million
The fourth most expensive NFT ever sold was CryptoPunk #5822. CryptoPunks are one of the few non-fungible token collections that has received so much fame they are now compared to more of having “cult-like status.” CryptoPunk #5822 is by far one of the highest grossing NFTs in the project (which was initiated back in 2017). Larva Labs began this project, reportedly being inspired by the London punk scene, the cyberpunk movement, and their favorite music artists like Daft Punk. CryptoPunk #5822 is one of the project’s rarest editions (with only 8 existing in the world out of no more than the 10,000 NFT Punks available to mint). The NFT was wanted by many but the CEO of Chain Deepak Thapliyal eventually minted and purchased this rare NFT Punk for the equivalent of $23.7 million.
#5: Alien Cryptopunk #7523 – $11.75 million
The fifth and second to last most expensive NFT on our list is Alien Cryptopunk #7523. This Cryptopunk NFT is one of only 9 Alien punks minted by Larva Labs (similar to the previous NFT we mentioned above). This Alien punk features some rare accessories that drove up its value compared to other NFT punks. Cryptopunk #7523 features a stylish earring (only 2459 other punks have these), knitted cap (419 punks share this accessory). Cryptopunk #7523 was sold also given the nickname “Covid Alien”. This rare cryptopunk NFT was bought by Shalom Meckenzie, the largest shareholder of DraftKings.
#6: TPunk #3442 – $10.5 million
TPunk #3442 is the least expensive NFT on our list having been sold for a cool $10.5 million. This NFT resembles the joker and can be described as a different breed of non-fungible tokens due to their design differences compared to other Cryptopunks and NFTs in general. This Tpunk broke the mold when It was bought by Tron co-founder Justin Sun.
