Gather Your Supplies
Two things are most important in terms of supplies, the essential oil blend you choose and the bottle you’re going to place your mixture in. Instead of one essential oil, you’d be better off choosing a blend that incorporates more than one for a more nuanced scent. As for the bottle, a beautiful, antique option with delicate details or in a fun color feels more delightful than a plain glass version. You’ll also want it to have a more narrow neck so the smell doesn’t escape out of it right away. Here’s your whole list of supplies:

Cut the Twigs to Size
The sticks or twigs you should use should be thick and dry—you want something that will absorb and diffuse the water and essential oil. To figure out what length to cut them down to take a look at what they look like in your empty bottle. You want the proportions to look right with the bottle, so you don’t want the sticks to be too long or too short. Double check that the height also fits in the spot you’ve picked out for your diffuser. When you go to cut the bottle of the twigs, cut them at an angle like you would a flower stem. The angled cut won’t let the bottoms of the twigs sit flush against the bottom of the bottle so they absorb more of the water and essential oil mixture.
Add Water and Essential Oil
Fill your bottle about three quarters of the way up with water. Using your own discretion, add drops of the essential oil blend you chose to the water, until you’re pleased with how strong the scent is. This will vary for each person. You want to remember that you want to make the scent stronger than you normally would since it won’t be right under someone’s nose.
Place Twigs in Glass Bottle
This step is as easy as it sounds! But you do want to artfully arrange the twigs. To do that, make sure the bottoms of each twig are spread out and are sitting in different spots on the bottom of the glass bottle. Basically you don’t want them to be stuck in one big bunch. Once this last step is complete you’re done! Place your brand new diffuser in a spot that’s far enough away from children and pets to help prevent spills. Enjoy!
